Hello TJ Families,
Arrival and dismissal are two of the most important times of the day for us at TJ. Our school is situated on a county road and it serves as a main passageway for commercial and personal vehicles accessing surrounding highways. Consequently, welcoming and dismissing 1,100 students requires clear procedures and expectations to ensure everyone’s safety.
We are continuously working with our District Director of Security and the Fair Lawn Police Department to monitor traffic flow in and out of the lot and on the streets surrounding the school so that we may make the necessary adjustments. Based on our ongoing observations of car and pedestrian movement around the school, we will be implementing new procedures for the upcoming school year.
The most significant change will be that cars arriving for student drop-off/pick-up will no longer pull into the school parking lot/loop. Cars dropping students off/picking students up on the school side of Morlot will pull up along the curb. Students will exit their vehicle on the curb side only. Cars will then merge back into the flow of traffic on Morlot.
By car:- Cars may not enter the parking lot/loop.
- Cars dropping students off/picking students up on the school side of Morlot will pull up along the curb. Students will exit their vehicle on the curb side only. Cars will then merge back into the flow of traffic on Morlot.
- Cars may not stop/park/drop students on the Morlot side of the street opposite the school between Philip and Dorothy.
- Students who are dropped off on a side street across from TJ MUST cross the street at the corner of Morlot and Philip where the crossing guard is located.
- Cars may also drop students off/pick students up on the school side of Philip between Lafayette and Van Saun.
By foot:
- Those walking to and from school must always be on the sidewalk. If your walking route is across the street from TJ, you MUST cross the street at the corner of Morlot and Philip where the crossing guard is located.
By bicycle:
- If your biking route is across the street from TJ, you MUST cross the street at the corner of Morlot and Philip where the crossing guard is located.
- When traveling across the front of the school to the bike racks, you must be on the sidewalk and stop at each entrance/exit to check for cars
By bus:
- Those exiting the bus in the morning should enter directly into the school
- Those waiting for the bus in the afternoon should be on the sidewalk and behind the ropes, entering the bus in a single-file line.
In summary, you should be approaching and leaving the school slowly, according to the above procedures, and with caution for your safety.
These procedures will be reviewed with students in all health classes during the first week of school. If any of the above procedures are not clear, please contact me, Mr. Grubman, or Mrs. Renna and we will be happy to answer any of your questions.
Yours in learning,
M. Weaver, Principal
