Dear parents/guardians and students,
Welcome to Language Arts. This course consists of shorter pieces of literature than the novel study. We will also focus on vocabulary and different reading strategies. We will see poetry in all units of study. Our writing pieces will include narrative, text analysis, and research simulation.
First marking period
short stories (plot, conflict, setting, character, and point of view)
Second marking period
biography and autobiography
Third marking period
fairy tales, legends, fables
Fourth marking period
science fiction and fantasy
In order to succeed in this class everyone must adhere to the following rules:
Be in your seat and ready to begin when class starts.
Bring all necessary materials to class.
Follow all directions.
Speak at appropriate times using appropriate voices.
Respect yourself, your classmates, and your TJ community.
Make sure you have a pen or pencil and your binder during class time.
If you are absent from class, you are responsible for work missed. The excuse of “I wasn’t here that day” will not work when a google assignment is accessible online. Assignments need to be made up in a timely manner.
Plagiarism is not permitted at any time. Copying from another student or directly from a book or website is a serious offense and will result in a 0 for that assignment.
