Welcome to Mrs. Kelley’s Page!
"Fiction gives us empathy; it puts us inside the minds of other people, gives us the gift of seeing the world through their eyes. Fiction is a lie that tells us true things, over and over." - Neil Gaiman
Dear 6th grade Students & Families,
Welcome to 6th grade! My name is Mrs. Daniela Kelley and I will be your reading and writing teacher. This will be my fifth year of teaching and my fourth year here at Thomas Jefferson Middle School.
This school year, we will be covering a variety of topics in reading, writing and in grammar. The reading content area increases the students’ knowledge of the fiction and non-fiction genres, provides a strong foundation for the future growth in reading, and engages students in critical analysis of literature. The writing content area reinforces the skills needed to write creatively and critically. The grammar content area will allow students to practice the fundamentals of the parts of speech, sentence construction, punctuation, and paragraph structure, as they continue to develop more sophisticated composition skills. These classes will also provide opportunities for oral presentations and creative projects.
I can’t wait to share my love of reading with you all and watch you grow as writers. Remember everyone’s story matters!
Best,
Mrs. Kelley
