SEPTEMBER, 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to middle school!

Your child is in middle school, but it’s the entire family that goes through the middle school experience.

Please make sure you visit the Parent Portal on Genesis and complete all the necessary forms and documents such as the handbook policy, etc.

I'm looking forward to a great year. Please feel free to E-mail me any questions or concerns you have the moment they arise. Also, take a look at some of the essential strategies (below) that I've gathered throughout the decades teaching 6th grade to make the "wonder years," somewhat wonderful.

Sincerely,

Mr. Gene Kuffel, M.A. Ed

Suggestions to help your child make sure he/she is learning:

Have your child make you a quiz. Deliberately get some answers wrong. Your child would then have to make an answer key to verify your solutions. This should provide some insight into his/her understanding of assessed topics.

Have your child teach you a lesson currently being studied. From time to time, play devil's advocate and come across as though you don't understand the concept being taught. This will force your child to justify and demonstrate to you his/her ability to grasp the concept he/she is trying to teach you. This method is also among the highest levels of thinking.

Homework assignments are written into the assignment pad and initialed by the teacher. Please check to see your child’s assignment pad or continue to check this site for the latest assignments. Homework is only assigned as needed and when students are capable of completing tasks independently. Please let me know if your child is truly having trouble completing his/her assignment. Below are steps to access the video tutor for each lesson.

Extra help is also offered on T, W, and Th. from 2:51 – 3:25 PM. Students are also welcome to stay after school and complete homework assignment
