Class Participation & Preparedness Rubric


Class participation and being prepared for class is important for you to be successful in school and your future career.  It helps you to understand the material, work cooperatively with your classmates and show that you care about your work.  Each week you will have the opportunity to earn up to 5 points per week for class participation for a total of 50 points per marking period. Below is a rubric that shows how you will be graded and what you need to do to earn full credit.  


5:

  • On time, in your seat, ready to learn when the bell rings

  • Have your homework and other materials (pen, paper, binder) ready for class

  • Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak

  • Focused on what is happening in class at all times (no side conversations and no calling out)

  • Asks good questions when appropriate

  • Volunteers responses to questions when appropriate

  • Works well with classmates when asked


4:

  • On time, in your seat, ready to learn when the bell rings at least 4 days

  • Have your homework and other materials (pen, paper, binder) ready for class at least 4 days

  • Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak most of the time

  • Focused on what is happening in class most of the time (no side conversations, no daydreaming, no calling out)

  • Asks good questions when appropriate most of the time

  • Volunteers responses to questions when appropriate most of the time

  • Works well with classmates when asked

3:

  • On time, in your seat, ready to learn when the bell rings at least 3 days

  • Have your homework and other materials (pen, paper, binder) ready for class at least 3 days

  • Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak some of the time

  • Focused on what is happening in class some of the time (no side conversations, no daydreaming, no calling out)

  • Asks good questions when appropriate some of the time

  • Volunteers responses to questions when appropriate some of the time

  • Works well with classmates when asked

2:

  • On time, in your seat, ready to learn when the bell rings at least 2 days

  • Have your homework and other materials (pen, paper, binder) ready for class at least 2 days

  • Raise your hand and wait for permission to once in awhile

  • Focused on what is happening in class once in awhile (no side conversations, no daydreaming, no calling out)

  • Asks good questions when appropriate once in awhile

  • Volunteers responses to questions when appropriate once in awhile

  • Works well with classmates sometimes

0-1:

  • Frequently late to class and unprepared to learn

  • Frequently without homework, pen/pencil, paper

  • Consistently calling out in class without permission

  • Rarely focused on class activities, involved in side conversations and daydreaming

  • Almost never asks questions in class

  • Almost never offers answers to questions in class

  • Has difficulty working with others
